Aileen Maguire Clinic Director.jpg

Aileen Maguire,

BSc (Physio) MISCP

Aileen graduated in 1989 from Trinity College Dublin. She initially worked within the health service in both Ireland and Australia. In 1994 she commenced working in private practice and joined the clinic in Wellington Rd in 2000. In 2012 became the Clinic Director. In addition to running the practice and carrying a specialist clinical caseload, she works one day a week as a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in the Mater University Hospital. In this setting she works within a multi-disciplinary team; managing a complex group of patients requiring pelvic floor rehabilitation.

Over the years Aileen has built her clinical experience while working with national and international athletes within sports as diverse as rugby, GAA, and mountain climbing. In the musculoskeletal field, her particular interest is in lower limb injuries and biomechanics (probably because she has incurred a fair few herself!). She has extensive experience in orthotics prescription and treats “the feet” in the practice.

In 2002 she completed a post-registration course in Women’s Health and since then has run the pelvic floor rehabilitation service in the clinic treating both male and female patients with bladder and bowel incontinence and pelvic pain. Treating pelvic girdle pain in pregnancy stimulated Aileen’s interest in pelvic health. Combining her musculoskeletal skills and additional knowledge in the management of continence gives Aileen a unique perspective in the treatment of this patient group. She is a guest lecturer on the undergraduate/masters’ graduate programmes in both UCD and RCSI on this topic. She has also lectured community-based Physiotherapists, midwives, and nursing staff in the Mater Hospital Dublin.

Aileen was elected to the board of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists in 2014 and served as Vice-President until 2017. The ISCP is the professional body for Physiotherapists in Ireland.

In her spare time, she likes to run, play golf, and watch sport. She completed the “Sea2Summit” in Westport on 3 occasions and in 2019 completed the Dublin City Marathon picking up a team bronze in her age category: definitely one to savour.
