The annual Aware Christmas Run takes place this year on December 12th in the Phoenix Park. Runners can take part in either the 10km race which starts at 10am or the 5km race which starts at 10.30am.
Aware is an organisation which provides help for those affected by stress, depression, bipolar or mood disorders. Aware creates an environment where those affected are listened to, understood, supported and encouraged to access appropriate therapies. The organisation provides group meetings to offer support and information, phone and email support services and a number of programmes based on the principles of cognitive behavioural therapy.
Approximately 2000 people take part in the Aware Christmas Run every year to help raise funds for the organisation. Last year 80,000 euro was raised which helped maintain and develop the excellent services which Aware provides.
Make sure you have fully warmed up before you set off on your run and don’t forget to stretch all major muscle groups when you finish the run, before cooling down. Your running shoes should hopefully be in good condition, especially if doing the 10km race. Depending on the weather on the day, wear appropriate clothing, a hat and possibly gloves if needed.
If you are unfortunate enough to sustain an injury during your run, contact us here at Ballsbridge Physiotherapy Clinic, where one of our experienced physios can get you back running as soon as possible.
If you are not much of a runner the 5km might be for you. However, if you after more of a challenge why not give the 10km run a go. Round up friends, family and colleagues and do something good for not only your own health but for the health of those who need the support of Aware.
