As we age our bone density slowly reduces, if this reduction in bone density is significant it can be termed Osteoporosis. This loss of bone density occurs more rapidly in women after menopause or it can be an effect of early menopause.  This lessening of bone density can also affect men.  Risk factors also include smoking, drinking more than the recommended weekly guideline and not engaging in physical activity.
